Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg recently shared more details about his life as a parent, including winding his two daughters down for bedtime.

The Meta CEO chatted with podcaster and computer scientist Lex Fridman in a wide-ranging interview and discussed his evening ritual with his daughters Maxima, 5, and August or "Augie," who is 4. They call the routine the "goodnight things," he said.

"I basically go through with Max and Augie, what are the things that are most important in life?" he said.

He said those things are a person's health — making sure that you take care of yourself and keep yourself in good shape — the loving friends and family in your life, and sharing something that they're excited about in the future.

Zuckerberg said asking that of a four-year-old is different for many others, since "the world is a heavy place." But having things to look forward to is a good way to navigate that.

"So whether it is building AR glasses for the future or being able to celebrate my 10-year wedding anniversary with my wife that's coming up," he said.

The last thing he asks them is what they did that day to help someone, which for his young daughters could be helping set the table or assisting a classmate in school.

"If you were to boil down my overall life philosophy in what I try to impart to my kids, those are the things that I think are really important," he said.

Zuckerberg married his college sweetheart, Priscilla Chan, in 2012. Together, they've launched the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, pledging to donate millions to philanthropic efforts.

Chan had previously said part of her husband's nighttime routine with their daughters is coding before bed. She said the pair like to split their parental duties, with Chan on the morning shift and Zuckerberg getting them ready at night.

"Mark has been doing that with August since she turned three," she told The Times of London in October, referring to their coding ritual.

He posted a photo of one of his coding sessions with their daughter on Facebook last year.

"I just want to say that teaching a kid to type is one of the greatest tests of patience I have ever experienced," he wrote.
